Computers and Solar Energy Systems for Schools in Vanuatu
Our Club is involved in an educational project in Vanuatu.
In conjunction with TAFE we have developed a low voltage computer system which we are able to install in very remote schools who do not have power. A small Company in Riverstone have developed a plug and play solar system which has helped us significantly, and they manufacture the systems for us at cost.
So far, we have installed systems in nine schools in Vanuatu. Travel has been once per year to different schools. The Federal Department of Education have funded students from TAFE to travel to Vanuatu to help with the installation and training of teachers and students. Unfortunately, this help finished this year and we will be looking at other methods to raise funds to cover students travel.
All computer systems are loaded with Microsoft Windows, Office and educational freeware. While we are in Vanuatu each installation is followed up to ensure all are working as well as the day they were installed.
Unfortunately our most recent trip for June 2024 has been delayed due to the closure of the local airline, but we hope to find alternate arrangements in the near future.
We are always looking for funding to ensure this important project continues. Donations to this registered RAWCS project will give more students the opportunity to be engaged learners and is tax deductible.

MYST (Mountains Youth Services Team)- Music Mentoring
MYST is a long established Blue Mountains based Not For Profit, providing opportunities for disadvantaged young people (12-20 years). Our Rotary Club is supporting MYST to develop the musical talents of young people, by providing funding for musical equipment and recording apparatus.
‘FunKtion@theJunction’ is a mentoring project for young bands/musicians aged 16-21 in the Blue Mountains. They will be guided through the process of developing an original song, creating a demo, recording a single and performing at an event at Junction 142 where the single will be launched. They will also be introduced to marketing strategies on social media and the organisational aspects of planning/hosting an event. This project will be a prototype for a mentorship scheme supporting young people in and outside local school contexts. Bringing together experienced professionals in the community with aspiring artists - developing and investing into upcoming talent. Connects young people to community institutions, i.e. MYST, Junction 142, Rotary.
The selected novice band (NB) will be consulted by the established outlet ‘Hibiscus Biscuit’. They will share their experience to help NB in writing, rehearsing and making a demo of a song. After analysis of the demo Stu Cam (Future State Studios - Leura) will help NB to finalise their song’s arrangement. He will schedule a rehearsal plan to get them recording-ready and record the single. The NB will be trained by KFM-Media in all aspects of event organisation and execution, i.e. sound and lighting specs, required personnel and scheduling.
