Cleft Palate Surgeries in Bangladesh

Dr Hasan Sarwar, has been working as a doctor in Australia for last 21 years. He completed his MBBS and Masters of Paediatric Surgery in Bangladesh. He has a special interest in cleft lip and palate operations for underprivileged children. He started a cleft camp project in 1998 in Bangladesh. He moved to Australia in 2004 with his family after gaining appointment as a plastic surgical registrar in Nepean Hospital. In 2007 he started Aussie Bangla Smile project under RAWCS. Since then the team has visited about 10 times with a medical team from Australia, and have successfully completed almost 800 operations with teams from Australia. He also organised many nursing education programs for Bangladeshi nurses. Recently he sent a shipping container of medical supplies and blankets, and is sending another next month. This project started with the help of Nepean Rotary Club and now is operating under Rotary E-Club of Greater Sydney. He also started women’s health project which has now been handed over to DAK foundation. For the last 4 years, he has been working as an emergency doctor in Nepean and Blue Mountains Hospital. His keen interest is to improve global health for underprivileged people.
